Koh Samui, Thailand is open for international travel, with onward travel to the neighbouring islands of Koh Phangan and Koh Tao allowed after 7 nights. Travelling under the Samui Plus programme is permitted for:

  • Fully vaccinated adults from low- and medium-risk countries
  • Children travelling with vaccinated parents

Travellers will be permitted to travel to other parts of Thailand after 14 nights if they test negative for COVID-19 throughout their stay.

Pre-arrival & arrival

To travel to Koh Samui, you will require:

  • A negative RT-PCR test results no longer than 72 hours before departure
  • Proof that you have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19
  • Proof that you spent the previous 21 days in an approved country  
  • Confirmation of booking at Samui Extra Plus (minimum 7 nights) and SHA+ certified hotels for a total of 14 nights*
  • Certificate of Entry from your Thai Embassy or Consulate
  • Approved alerting app installed on your smartphone
  • COVID-19 health insurance with minimum coverage of USD 100,000
  • RT-PCR test on arrival – for adults and children (6 years and older)

* Shorter stays are permitted if you are departing to an international destination.

Your stay in Koh Samui 

For the first 7 nights of your stay in Koh Samui, you will be required to stay at a Samui Extra Plus-approved hotel. Thereafter, you can stay at any SHA+ certified hotels on Koh Samui, Koh Phangan or Koh Tao.

Day 0

  • Wait in your hotel room until you receive the RT-PCR test result.

Days 1 – 3

  • If the result is negative you are free to enjoy all the leisure and activities facilities within your resort.

Days 4 – 7

  • Guests can leave their hotel and enjoy local attractions along sealed routes.
  • Adults and children aged 6 and above undergo a 2nd RT-PCR test on Day 7.

Days 8 – 14

  • If the second test is negative you can travel freely and stay at any SHA+ certified hotel in Koh Samui, Koh Phangan or Koh Tao.
  • Adults and children aged 6 and above undergo a 3rd RT-PCR test on Day 13.

Departure

After 14 nights, and a 3rd negative test on Day 13, you will be permitted to travel to other destinations within Thailand. Please note that regional COVID-19 restrictions may apply. 

For international departures, you will be responsible for complying to all the requirements needed for travelling to your next destination.

What kind of accommodation do I need to book when entering Thailand via Koh Samui?

What is the Samui Plus programme?

The Samui Plus programme is a project to allow safe travel to Koh Samui, Koh Phangan or Koh Tao under specific guidelines, to minimise the risk of spreading COVID-19.

What countries are eligible for the Samui Plus Programme?

The Samui Plus programme will be available for travellers flying to Thailand from approved countries that are considered low or medium risk. The list of eligible countries is designated by the Ministry of Public Health and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). We would advise that you to check the list released by the Ministry of Public Health when planning your travels to Thailand.

Travellers who are not nationals of those listed countries must have been in the listed countries at least 21 days before entering Koh Samui.

What are the documents required for the Samui Plus programme?

  • International travellers need to apply for the Certificate of Entry (COE), just like everyone else travelling to Thailand during the COVID-19 pandemic. The proper Thai visa or eligibility for visa exemption will also be needed.
  • To enter Thailand using the Samui Plus programme, travellers will need to show their COVID-19 vaccine certificate with a vaccine that has been approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) or the Thai authority. Proof of vaccination must be submitted when applying for a COE.
  • A health insurance policy with coverage including COVID-19 related treatment in the amount no less than USD 100,000 for the total duration of your planned stay in Thailand is currently mandatory for everyone entering the country.
  • To enter Koh Samui via the Samui Plus programme, travellers will have to present a COVID-19-free certificate issued within 72 hours before departure to Thailand and a vaccination certificate, as well as undergo a COVID-19 test at the airport (if necessary).
  • Travellers are also required to download the Samui Health Pass in order to track their journey to the island.
